What in the world has happened to the deer? I don't know what to attribute it to, but the deer have just vanished into thin air. I've been 5 days now without a single deer sighting (which is next to impossible where I hunt).
Opening day of the orange army started Saturday. We're 4 days into gun season now. That has something to do with them being pressured but I don't think too much due to the weather for the first few days of gun and the lack of shots/hunters in the woods . All day rains on the opener and 30mph winds the second day. Just not a lot of deer taken or hunters out. I would like to say that's the reason, but I really don't think it's the case.
I went from seeing a lot of deer (lot of bucks) every single sit to absolutely nothing in the blink of an eye. Last couple days have been picture perfect days to hunt. Low 30's with no wind after 2 miserable days. I'm not getting it right now. Stands aren't burned out. Pressure hasn't really kicked in yet. There I sit with my bow looking at nothing but trees and fields for the last 5 days. Is everyone in lockdown? Is it the breeding phase? Or just dumb luck?

I had six hunts without seeing deer then all heck broke loose. I would imagine gun season isn't helping anything either. Hang in there I know it's tuff when you see nothing and it's suppose to be the "magical" time of year.

I think the orange army is the main factor. I saw 2 bucks in the Southern Tier near Otselic. Neither was with a doe but I think both were looking. I shot the one at 1 in the afternoon on Friday and saw the other at 11 or so Saturday morning. He was all rutted up and cruising. The one I shot wasn't as puffed up as the other. They've taken their dates and found a hideout.
