I absolutely love the LW alpha hang-on stands. I own 6 of them. I had a problem with one of them that I have in a huge oak tree. The tree is a giant and it's bark is the heavy, deep coarse stuff. When it gets cold and damp out The stand gets noisy and makes a loud creaking sound. IT'S NOT THE STAND! The top strap is flexing against the bark which emits the noise.
This can be totally eliminated by putting a ratcheting strap around the tree and the upright of the stand, up near where the top stand strap is located. The top strap seems to be the culprit that causes the bark to creak. Ratchet the strap as tight as you can get it and the noise will go away!
My buddy Sam taught me this trick.

Ya, works great. I have always placed a racket stap at the top and the bottom.. No matter what....They make the stands nice and tight. Then at the end of the season I just loosen them up, leave them hang, then tighten them up in the FALL....
In would be careful leaving the straps out. They will dry rot. When you come back in the fall they may look good but could break when presure is put to them. I know this because I had one that just about broke on me this year.
I had one of these stands and sold it. I may have to get another.
My plan would be to buy extra hanging straps....and leave them in the trees I want to hunt. Put up a cheap-o ladder ($40) and it shouldn't be something someone wants to steal all that badly.
This way....you could hike your stand in each time and still not have to climb with the climber. Leave a bow hook up there....and you're hunting in minimal time.....with minimal risk of theft. I've got some of the summit climbing system setups that would make this very safe, too.
That's a good idea. Another thought in regards to keepingthe LW hang-on stands quiet is the seat. I found that the material the seat is made of is noisey in the cold if you have to shift your butt. I sewed some fleece type material that I had to the seat. I have to customize everything. Now it's quiet like a church mouse.
