Default Opinion on shot placement?

I need an opinion on what my arrow hit this morning. Scenario: 20 feet up in tree stand, small buck comes and stands broadside at 15 yrds. I shoot and it appears that it went high but lined up withthe chest area. An inspection of the arrow after one hour shows very little blood but the arrow and fletchings are covered in fat. Good dark hair on broadhead and ground. No blood on ground until approx. 50yds into track then a four inch circle of very bright red blood. Three to four more drops and the blood stops. The deer was last seen running up a pretty steep hillside. I think I hit the deer high on the back and with the steep angle, never entered the chest cavity but only went under the skin but above the spine. The deer ran off as if normaland with his tail down. No hunching over as with a gut shot. The deer ran out of sight and no beds with blood were found. Any thoughts? Thanks, Eric

Thanks for the quick feedback guys. Terrible feeling to not recover a deer but I hope you are right mr4pt so I can finish the job.

It always stinks to hit a deer and not recover it but by the sounds of things it seems like a superficial wound. I imagine he will heal fine
