Default Ever see a deer with a mane?

A buddy of mine has a buck mounted with one and last night I saw a button buck with one.

The dark spot on his neck is 1.5 inch longer than the rest. I couldn't get the greatest pic of it because all I had was a camera phone.

He sure was liking my scent though. I'd like to see him again in a few years.

Maybe just the winter coat being a little longer? Maybe he knows something we don't, like it's probably going to be a really hard winter!

Either way it was pretty cool to see. I just hope he doesn't walk up on everyone like this or he's never gonna make it. LOL

That is interesting. Looking at the picture, it looks like that one arrow is missing part of a feather

Yeah its fairly rare but not extreamly. My uncle mounts about 60-70 heads a year and seems to get 1-2 a year with a mane. The one he got last year had a trophy of a mane. It looked just like a prong horn mane and was about 2 inches in length for about 2/3 down the neck. Kinda strange lookin but what can ya do haha. WCL

V8Ranger,

It is missing part of the vane. It was a casualty of broadhead practice. So its now my small game / back up arrow. Its still flies fine though. So it does have a BH on it just in case I accedently grab it.

Here are some pics that show it a little better. But they aren't as clear as he was moving.
