Default aging deer

nearly every thread i see on here talks about the age od deer. how are you guys so sure of the age? from my experience, and the experience of the state deer biologist of OK it is hard to tell a 3.5 from a 4.5 or vise versa. even with the deer on the ground and looking at the teeth it is an inexact science. now i realize that certain body characteristics lead you to assume an older buck, but do any of you pull teeth and match that to your gues at age? or is that all it really is and you actually have no idea of the age?

not trying to start a fight here folks. just generally curious
