Default Have you seen this before?

I came across this video last night on YouTube and it has me thinking. I have never seen an arrow fletched in this manner, but it seems to make sense. Has anyone else tried this method and if so how did it work for you?

He says he does it to get the effect of a 3.5" vane but with only 1.5" vane weight. I use 4" feathers and get the effect of 4" x 3 with less than 1.5" vane weight.
