I've never been in a tree when one hits, but I've had them hit my main hunting grounds in the spring. Talk about a mess. Looks like it was logged w/o being cleaned up.

I usually stay out of the tree when they have an alert out for our area. But I have been mushroom hunting when a tornado came through a little ways away. Fun fun.

Tornados can be common in the south in the very early spring, but in our area, May is as early as they usually start. And we can have them through August and possibly sept.

About three years ago i was sitting in my stand during what i thought was just a thunderstorm. But then it got really really windy, so i got down and walked to my truck to wait it out. When i turned the radio on they were talking about a tornado on the ground about 2 miles from where i was. It had gone right past me without me being able to see it.

We had one hit our areain 2005 on Nov 12. Only reason I remember that is because that was the same day we closed on our house. While we were at the bank, the radioreported it was headed for our area.Missed our house by about 2 miles.....talk about anxious moments.
