Default First deer this year...

I thought this was a small doe... turned out to be a button buck. State still lets me tag it with a doe tag tho... It was sunset, the sun was down and I was running on twilight fumes. The property runs down hill towards the north. At the far north end there is a large field that is fully circled by a 'track' (think like an oval ring like on a track and field track) of really tall grass (quail habitat). This grass is THICK and high. Because of that the deer make and use the same paths to get in and out of the field. I decided ot hunt one of those paths last night. So it's twilight and I start to see deer out in the soy field and would't you know it: they are using all the exits but the one I'm hunting :/

There are 2 deer out there (bucks). So I'm thinking it's going to get dark and I'm going to get down, end of story. When just then something (have no idea what, couldn't see anything else out in the field) scares the 2 deer I could see out of the field. Both (bucks) run into the field about 75 yards to my left. After watching them run off I glance up and there is a doe headed straight for the path I'm hunting. I draw back before she gets into the weeds and she stops running to check out what had chased them out of the field. She (turned out to be a he) gave me a shot and I took it.

I guessed that I had hit 1 lung and decided to wait until morning to go find him. He was about 125 yards away. Drug him out (a little under 1/2 mile) got him home, got him butchered and now I have meat in the freezer!

Now for the next one...

Didn't see your reply. I turn off of highway 30 at highway B (right around cedar hill). I go back for about another 15 miles, don't honestly know the town. But it's by a high school out there.
