Monday i hunted all day. Sun up to sun down. Early morning i saw a few doe and one spike. I decided not to leave the blind but to stick it out all day and wait for the late afternoon. It was a mild day and sunny
At 1:30 the largest buck i have ever personally seen while hunting (about 18-20 wide with 10-12 inch G2's) comes cruising by at about 40 yards. He was just slowly walking, with no apparent concerns, from my left to right. Unfortunately, he stayed out at about 35 - 40 and kept on going.
Really, I thought from 11 to about 4 would be nap time but that was not the case. I was very surprised to see this guy up and moving like that. Maybe during the rut but not now
Drop Tine,
My biggest buck to date was killed by gun in the middle of the day. But that guy had his nose to the ground and was lookin for love feverishly.
This guy was just cruisin. casual walk in the park type stuff. In fact he was posing broadside at 40 yards just looking around. Never saw me or became anxious at all
DannyD, first of all, I commend you on not taking a shot that are not comfortable with! Most people would not hesitate to wing an arrow at him even though they know they aren't comfortable with the shot.
As for large bucks in the middle of the day, you bet! In fact, the guy in my profile was shot at 11:45 AM. I have a a 130 class I took with a gun that I shot at 1:30PM.
During the rut, ANYTHING can happen. When it picks up, I'm in the tree from daylight till dark. The trick for me is staying alert! During mid day when it warms up a bit and the movement slows, its hard to stay focused!
Ikilled my biggest 2 bucks between 11:30 & 12:00. I love to stay out past lunchtime....you never know and you can't kill 'em if you ain't out there!
Good job passing the iffy shot, hopefully you'll get another chance at him!
