Default Is This a Scrape?

Hey Guys, im trying to learn here. I was walking through the woods a few weeks ago, maybe 2 weeks while hunting and i came upon this, it was much larger in person, and this area stunk as if it was a scrape and this buck peed in this. also there was like 2 white streaks on the tree going down, not Rubs, just streaks like it was paint, i dont know if that means anything. thanks ..

In my limited experience....I'd say "no". Not a scrape.

A scrape's gonna have two things, most times.

1. Every one I've ever found had a licking branch above it. (See photo)

2. Evidence of fairly fresh earth...made by them pawing at the ground wih their hooves.

I walked by one yesterday that was 4' wide.....lol.

Hard to tell from the pic, but it could be where one just started to make one, maybe an inexperienced buck. I would check it in about a week, see if it has grown. As Jeff said, most of the time it will have a licking branch above the scrape, and usually raked out more than that is.

Thinking turkey as well...although it could have been a deer pawing for nuts.

A scrape will be deeper and usually have a set of hoof prints in it where he stood to urinate in the scrape.

Is there a branch above It? There's no way we can tell that from the pic.

It don't look like a scrape to me either but then again the leaves are falling like mad and covering up the scrapes. Keep an eye on It though, might be one yet.
