Default Why do I even do it????

Well guys there is no easy way to tell you guys this...I blew it big time..last night I stuck a 140" class deer, found 2 pieces of my arrow, seemed to be about 3/4 penetration, red blood on the arrow and Blazer vanes, but hardley any blood on the ground whatsoever. We found a little at dark but then couldn't find any more, so we just left and came back this morning and looked again, we finally found some more blood about 300 yards away from the last blood, but it was only 5-6 little drops, coudn't see any blood up high on weeds or tree limbs at all, I don't have a clue where I even hit the deer, I never seen my arrow after hitting my release. Upon impact he sprinted 100 mph crashing through everything, by all indications, I thought he was hit good. I have never seen a deer run so fast in my life, no bouncing at all, and his tail was tucked. Me and my Dad looked for 2 hours last night and 5 this morning. With no blood to follow, it makes it all most impossible.

I am sick to my stomach, I don't even feel like bowhunting for awhile, this is 2 years in a row that I hitP&Y deer and put bad hits on both of them. Last year at least, I know he survived, I hit him square in the shoulder joint and only got 2 inches of penetration and my arrow fell out on his second jump, this year however, I have no idea. And it wasn't like it was a hard shot, he was 25 yards slightly quartering away from me. I am doing something terribly wrong during my form, release, follow through, or all of the above. I don't even know where to begin. Sorry guys.

At least you're honest about. How about some specifics on the shot scenario?

Go back and look again. You might be surprised at what you can find after a day of not being in there.

23-25 yards away, slighty quartering away, shooting at his right side. Nothing but air in between him and I...And this is what I do.

Trust me, me and my Dad looked everywhere, those briars didn't even faze me this morning, I even got as desperate to walking zig zag in a 20 acre standing corn field. It's sickining, to spend hours upon hours preparing for this exact moment, knowing the odds are against you, but you do it anyways, and it arrives, perfect shot, perfect distance, and I choke it up. I would of rather my bow blew apart, then knowing I may have just fatally wounded a really nice deer, that won't die until he's 6 countys over.

it happens to everyone, just go every day and watch for buzzards. Their a sure fire way to find them. I found a dead fawn that way. Chill out and settle down, you'll find him one day or the next. Reguardless, Atleast you have a story teo tell and some experience in the department, I bet waffle house hits all kind of deer and loses them, just gotta take it on the chin and keep rollin with the punches.

I feel your pain. Last season i had the exact same thing happen to me, i put a beautiful shot on a quartering away buck and could not find more than a couple of droplets 500 yards away. I also found my arrow and it was covered in bright red blood. The only difference is that i saw where my arrow hit and i couldn't have placed it any better. 22 yards quartering away with a 2 inch rage placed perfectly and he made it as far as he did. Boggles my mind still to this day. I was out there looking for a week straight, all day and all night. I think i got about 2 hours sleep that week.

Just hang in there and keep looking. I found sign three days later in an area that i never would have thought he would go. Sometimes they do a big circle and end up somewhere off the map when fatally wounded.

Good Luck!
