Default what should I expect in the morning?

Hit a deer about an hour before dark this evening. Tracked it about 50 yards, before I backed out mainly due to my light dying. What do you think I can expect in the morning? Seems kind of odd to me that it didnt go on a death run and fall over, it grunted at impact, ran 30 yards or so, and slowly walked off, tail down. I got penetration up to the feathers.

Here is where I hit it.

and where I stopped looking. The blood trail was fairly spotty until this point.

It looks like heart shot but were you in a tree? If so, you could have missed the herat and gone out the chest. It is low if from a tree. I predict you'll find it in the am though within another 100 yds.

yes, it was from a 15' ladder stand. shot distance was 25 yards. I did not get a passthrough, I believe it lodged into the opposite shoulder.

Go get some friends and pick up your deer, he won't make it 100 yards.

Tender loins for breakfast.

with knowing you hit there, and that blood, id be dragging it back....im impatient as it is...

i do always carry my coonhunting light(miner style light) in the truck though....i can light up the woods for hours...

sounds like you smoked it....shouldnt be far off...the bubbles say that it shouldnt be super far away....bubbles dont usually start showing up till near the end of the trail alot of times...

2 things are working against the blood trail....1) the heart is likely cut hard...its not pumping very effectively if at all...which is leading to blood not being pumped into the cavity...2) your arrow is in the deer...

ive found shots like that tend to go a bit farther than a shot slightly higher just above the heart as well...

good luck!! keep us updated!!

Better check with these guys and make sure that's not above the spine......lol.

Just kidding....

I agree with the others.....it's laying dead, right now. Should be a successful recovery. Good luck.

Well the good news is that I found what was left of the deer. Unfortunatly, my private land isnt so private, and all I found was the gut pile. [:@]

The deer made it about 150 yards, but I'm 100% certain my mechanical didnt open. The heart had a hole through it, but the blades were definitly not open.
