Hunsucker I want my next mount to be a pedal, but I think the less base you have the better it looks....just a simple stand of some sort and let the deer do the talking, all this fancy stuff is cool, but at some point I think takes away from the deer itself....just my 02 cents...

Here is one that a friend had done.
The farmer that owns the farm I used to hunt gave me those sheds. They were from the buck my friend killed across the road, so I gave them to him to put on the mount.

Good post Mike, I'm planning on doing the same, once I get the buck this year. I like the first one on John's post.

Mike,
Here's another look at mine.........it's a "Full Wall Pedestal" Joe Coombs form
model #94-7222R
http://www.joecoombs.com/cgi-bin/JoeCoombs.storefront/48f7f3550f2578942740d0e764650735/Product/View/94&2D7222R

BEAUTIFUL form. I'll also include a link to all of his pedestal style, Full wall, classic and Pivot. (All can be made into a stand alone pedestal by agood taxidermist)

The form will be everything on this mount, don't just settle for any old form because it's called a "pedestal"and fits. Choose wisely!I've found most taxidermists want to just use McKenzie forms because theyoffer so many sizes it's easy to find one that fits.
One thing you'll notice about the Coombs full wall model I picked. It gives you quite a bit more body behind the shoulder rather than that sharp 1/2 moon arc looking style some forms use.
I considered getting the form you see above done on a standalone fence post or driftwood base but opted for the wall......in any event that form could be made into a stand alone.
