Default Need some help with a new hunter.

Hey guys a buddy of mine has an 11 year old son, who is infatuated with hunting, turkeys and deer. But he is having a problem with him aiming. He is right handed, but when he closes his left eye to shoot, he cant keep his right eye open. But when he tries to shut his right eye, he can keep his left eye open. He has not tried shooting a bow yet, just a 22, but if he is having trouble with that, he will have trouble with a peep sight too. I suggested getting a patch for his left eye, but my buddy said that that dont work either, as soon as he covers the left eye, the right one closes too. So we are looking for suggestions to help this situation. Anyone have any ideas?

So he can't "wink"?

Sounds like he is right handed but left eye dominant. Have you tried to see if he can shoot left handed.

the two eyes open method is agood one, but itdoesn't work for some people though. i'm one of those people. i'm right handed and right eye dominant so i've always closed my left eye with rifle and bow, and thats always worked for me. but when i try to keep both eyes open, its like i'm seeing double trying to focus on pins or crosshairs. not real sure why, but thats just what happens to me

He is probably cross dominate with the eyes like me . Either try with both open or try shooting left handed. that is how i shoot a gun left handed but i am right handed at everything else

I remember when I was younger that I couldn't "wink" either. Pretty crazy now that I think about it.

Anyway, like the others have said. Teach him to shoot with both eyes open. I actually prefer it.
