I'm trying to hunt big bucks also. I haven't got one yet. Have got a couple does though. All my friends have got good bucks and in order for me to get one, I guess the only advice is get out there and wait for that time. That or if you are like me, Don't have your standards of a big buck so high. I passed on a couple good 4x4's last year because I had trail cam pics of some bigger ones in the area. After eating tag soup the rest of the year, I decided this year getting any deer, buck or doe is a trophy in itself to me.

When in doubt.....hunt the ladies. I don't mean right now.....but the time to get on the does and wait out a buck is coming. I fell into two good representative bucks (representative for my woods)doing this in the past two seasons.

The trick is knowing when to lay OFF of them (the does)and hunt your buck when he's there. When you know where he is......GO GET HIM. GET IN THE WOODS.

I've spent the entire (almost) first month of my season looking for a particular buck. While that is very rewarding (get him or not)......I know the time is coming to get on the does and wait a buck out. That's exactly what I plan to do in a few weeks. I KNOW where the does are....and where they will be. I'm "close" on that buck, too.......I can feel it. But when the end of October comes........he'll change his routine. I'll need to change with him.

It's getting ready to get fun (MORE fun), here.

I'll keep this simple.. yet in no way do I consider myself a "big" buck hunter.. older bucks yes.. not always big though.

Get off the mindset where you want to watch deer. You know.. the I saw 10 deer tonight and it was a good night kinda hunt. It's not about that anymore.. cause you are only looking for 1 deer so it doesn't matter how many you see.. you want only 1.. and 20 seconds with him. Forget the numbers.

Preferred food sources are key to unlocking the big buck code. Understand the difference between food sources and preferred food sources. I know this sounds vague.. but I hate typing anymore than I have too.

Understand "right time.. right buck". If he's there now and displays the mood you need in order to take him (daylight movement).. don't wait to hunt him tomorrow. Tomorrow rarely ever comes.

There is so much to learn.. and yet you have to remember that you are the more intelligent of the two.. but he's built to survive. Experience and mistake will be your two greatest lessons.. and you will recieve them often.

This probably sounds corny.. but it's all I gots for ya. I hate to type.

Duke....

There's a novel within that post. It just made me re-think my afternoon hunt.
