Default Help for using a deer decoy!

Hi everyone!
My old man got a deer decoy and is going to be using it this fall. He was thinking of putting it in one of our clover fields and hunting out of a blind near it when the rut kicks up.
What sort strategies, when/where, tips would you have for a first time decoy user?
Thanks in advance!!

-Be scent free, use rubber/latex gloves when messing with decoy
-dont have it facing directly way from you or towards you
-if you use it during gun season, make sure it has orange where the white should be (ears, chest), if not, hunt from stand
-a little scent on the back end of decoy if its a doe
-spray entire decoy with scent eliminator once you put decoy out and then use doe scent or buck scent

had a guy told me he had his decoy shot three time last year said the guy shot it and then shot it again. After the third the guy walked up and was shocked it was a decoy. The guy told me the guy said he was sorry and even offered to pay for it. He said he told him no it was old and need replaced and he would now have a reason to get a new one without the wife getting mad. Though i doubt she bought the story

Thanks for the tips!
Should we be using a doe decoy or should we use the antlers? Might not matter. I suppose if a buck sees the decoy, male or female, during the rut, it will either want to mount it or fight it.
Any preference one way or the other?
Thanks again!
