Hunting the rut in Wisconsin
When does the rut occur here in WI? I'd say late Oct.-1st week or 2 of Nov. correct? What tactics do you use during these few "magical" days??

RE: Hunting the rut in Wisconsin
Good pre rut starts the last week in oct usually, bit now that were in a for a warm October Im thinking were goign to be pushed back a bit. Im predicting the Rut wont be starting untill the week before gun season. Seeking phase will be a week before that. So the 2nd and 3rd weeks in Nov may be your best bet im predicting. I could be wrong but if it doesnt cool down in the next week or two, im afraid were in for a late rut. The only way to be sure is to hunt steadilly from the end of the 3rd week (after the lull)in Oct-Mid Nov

I always like Halloween weekend as the start through the first 2 weekends into November. Now if it would stop raining every weekend, that would be nice!

From halloween till the end of November drag a scent line with estrous scent to your stand and sit there till you hit one or run out of arrows. Stay in stand all day. Good luck.

If you subscribe to the moon-phase rut theory, it should be later this year than normal.
seeking...2 or 3 days before the full moon (nov13) chasing... by Nov 15, intensed by the 17th or 18th breeeding...noticed by nov 18 - 28th |

Ditto for starting to hit it hard halloween weekend as well. The warm weather my slow things down as stated previously however. That could make things interesting for the opening weekend of gun season however by providing an opportunity to cash in on the tail end of peak rut activity. If we could just get that magical 1 inch of snow in the woods then as well......

RE: Hunting the rut in Wisconsin
I agree with the last week in October for pre-rut. That is a great time of year to pull the horns out and do some grunting. First week of November into the second week is usually full rut. It is almost impossible to pull the bucks away from the does this time of year. I agree just be in the woods and be ready because the action usually comes fast and furious when it does come. I don't know if it is true, but I have always been told that does come into estorous because of the length of the day. When it isunseasonably warm, than theydo most of the breeding at night. Just what I've been told.
