Just got these pics from a friend. Says it was from last week in west central MN. Blows my mind that this is already going on. One deer was dead and the other wasreleased to battle another day.

Man, that is crazy. A little sparing must have turned into a big fight! At least the one buck was released and survived. I bet hes gonna be sore for a few days!

They're known to tickle horns this time of year. I don't think things get too heated between bucks right now. Kinda like dogs playfully fighting. They should still be running in bachelor groups. Atleast, here in SC.
Not too early, once their antlers harden they really feel each other out for dominance because prior to that they were buds and just boxed a little. Dominance is usually laid down long before the does even begin to come into estrous. (rut)
