With alot of talk of people not being able to hunt old grounds and the increased popularity of leasing, I was curisous to see how everyone here has use of the land.
Are you against leasing ? Looking for a piece of land to buy ? Should be interesting

No public land close enough for me to justify the drive as much as I hunt....so I hunt mainly extended family owned land or have permission from landowner.

You tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is 'never try'
My uncles had land in NY before they passed away, but at that time, I wasn't even old enough to hunt...makes it nice when family owns some property.

I belong to a club that owns some land, and leases some more. I also own a small tract I plan on hunting this year, and there is a good chunk of public land I hunt. So I suppose I would say all four options apply.

Now that really bits.....most of what was in the family was old farm land in Western New York. The only positive is that the town is so small that it still remains mostly the same except no one farms it.

Elk, sounds like we've got the same story.
My grandfather owned thousands of un-developed acres in central NJ. Farms and timber. Some of the farms were home to his thoroughbred racing/bredding business, but others were just LAND. He permitted farmer friends to farm and hunt. Other than that, they were investment properties. We still own a small farm, to this day- but most were sold by the mid to late 90's.
I wish we still owned these parcels. Now, they are developments or shopping centers, for the most part .
