Can you shoot too much?

Back before my bow needed new limbs I had a routine that was down and habitual. I think I was shooting about 180 arrows a day in total. Now I have not shot my bow since I got it back, been sick and busy. Well I want to restart up this routine and was wondering if its not good to put 1000 shots a week on a bow?

As long as you take good care of your equipment and yourself, I don't think there is anything wrong. The only concern I would have is possibly wearing out the carbon arrows, if you really are shooting 1000 shots a week it may not take long to weaken them and that can cause problems. However, considering how often most people get new arrows, I don't see it as much of a problem at all.

180 and shots a day is a lot. I would say with that many shots you could wear something out, cams, string, limbs...

But I agree. The arrows could wear out however unlikely..As long as you maintain a bow you should be fine. After 2000 shots new string and complete bow tune up(complete bow tear down) new axles and cams new bearings. Trust me Ive been shooting compounds since I was 9 and ive seen what can happen..When an axle snaps and someone get s nice bowsting lash across their face or even parts of the axle embedded in their skin. not kool..

nissan are you saying that after 2000 shots we should replace our cams?? or string even?? Man that's not many shots at all over the course of a year. I would think that maybe after 3500-4000 shots you would replace the string and maybe the axle....I may be way wrong on this.

[&:] Dont pay attn. lol Axles and cams last as long as you treat em good. a good set of 452x strings will last 1-2 years easy for the average shooter. Replacing bowparts besides the string when not broke is simply dumb imo.

why not replace the limbs at 3000?

Thats a bit overkill.
A modern bow shouldnt be showing wear on the axle after 2000 shots.
A good string ( hand made one) should be fine up to 4000 or more.

Ok then you guys should read your owners manual. Bowtech and hoyt recommend after 2000 shots string should be replaced. And yes i know but ive seen people who didnt listen to owners manuals and got "burned" trust me. you guys think what you want. I will still replace everyone 2000 shots or so. And my bow will get a tune up every year. And I will have my bows for a long time. Let me guess you guys dont clean your rifles either right. (sarcasm)

When I was shooting a lot, indoors,....60+ shots in a night at 66#'s would be a lot. I can't imagine shooting 3X that much EVERY day.

I "might" shoot 60 arrows a WEEK, now. Summer? Same deal. 20-40 arrows in a single sitting is the norm....and that's a couple to three times on a good week.

I liken archery to golf a lot.....and yes...you CAN shoot too many shots....and hit too many balls.

strings, which everyone agreed on....not axles/cams.

Vast difference between factory strings and aftermarket strings on most bow companies too.

Nothing wrong with replacing strings like that, but any other bow part is overkill.
