Default Question for those of you that keep a journal

Jeffs post about his deer sightings got me to thinking. This is just an example, so bare with me.[8D] When you say that you have been out say 10 times, and you say that you have seen say 2 bucks, 15 does, and 4 fawns. Are you saying that you have seen 15 "different" does, or do you think they might be the same does just different days. For example, I might go out 6 different days, and see 4-8 does total, but sometimes I wonder if they are the same does, or 4-8 different does.

I don't know how one could distinguish ALL doe groups....but I DO see the same doe groups multiple sightings. For my journal purposes, though.....I note each sighting as a new deer. It's semantics, really.

As for bucks....I've begun to note when I see a "new" one. Believe me....it isn't hard to keep up with, here.

Thanks Jeff, you answered the question without me even having to ask it. I guess the question was do you count every doe sighting as a different doe. I just didnt know if you guys were actually seeing 60 different does, or some of them were the same ones.

And I didnt even touch on the bucks, because that is obvious, its not too hard to tell the difference between an 8 pointer, and a 10 pointer. And even if I see 3 different 6 pointers, its not too hard to tell them apart.

Another thing I did in '07 (differently than '06) was I started noting fawn sightings, separately.

I'd suggest that....for two reasons:

1. It'll keep your figures cleaner (BB's aren't counted as "bucks")
2. You don't have to worry about distinguishing BB's from doe fawns

Thanks Jeff, that sounds like a great idea. I will go thru my journal from last year, and figure out some #'s, and post them up. Last year was my first year of keeping a journal, and I really didnt get started until October, and my season starts mid September.
