You can get tanned hides on ebay all day long for 50 dollars. Anybody that would pay 300 dollars is an idiot and you ought to try to sell him a bridge or two.
This year, I am going to soak mine in borax for a few days with water. And get it to the point I can pressure wash off the fur so I can use the rawhide for backing longbows.
i have my tanned hide on my TV stand with the TV on top of it....had nowhere else to put it...it looks good there....tons of things you can do with tanned hides though....

This yearImwalpapering my man room/barn with them. already have rabbbit squirrel, etc. Im looking forwardtoputting up a few more to cover a wall or two.
I usually tan them and keep them around the house. This year, I need a new possibles bag so I'll be making that out of at least one of them.
To tan them, I tack the hide to a piece of plywood and cover it with salt to dry out for a few weeks. Then I scrape the salt off of it, and crack a half dozen eggs on the hide and work it in like brain tanning. Then I just work it until it's dry and smoke it over a firegive it some color.
