I have a really nice set up in a thick island of persimmon and oak trees that are in the middle of a field. All morning I watched deer move about the field. I had a single fawn eat persimmons directly below and in front of my stand for about 10 minutes. Decided to pass and let it grow. Later that morning I heard a series of grunts. I looked to my right and a doe was grunting continuously and coming toward me leading her fawn. I thought they would pass in front of my stand instead they decided to go THROUGH the island! As they worked toward the back of my stand I took a shot at the doe. The arrow clipped a branch and missed her clean. She bolted and went about 30 yards over the fence line an huffed at me. She never saw me. About 10 minutes later I saw her bound across the field. The fawn in the mean time went about 30 yards into the field in front of me and watched the island with curiosity finally trotting off. I won't be able to hunt that stand again for about 2 weeks. I hope that's enough time for them to get over it. I still feel sick about that miss.[:-] Dang branch!
