Default New To Area

Im new to the area I live in, Richland Center WI, and I am at almost a complete loss on finding a place to hunt. I dont have a plat book and its pretty expensive to buy one, its around 30 bucks here. I had a chance to hunt a wine vineyard, in which i have posted, but its not what i would call a "sure spot". The area is tainted and the deer are pretty nocturnal, so it doesnt really enthuse me alot.
But does anyone know how i should go about finding a place?
Is there any secrets of the pros that i can use in finding a nice place to hunt? Im not looking for a whitetail wonderland, though it would be nice, i just would like some info on how to find anything...
any info would be greatly appreciated...
thank u

I would go to a bar that serves lunch and start drinking. Who ever is playing Euchre are your farmers and big land owners, the rest is up to you.

I would start looking here:

If you go to the "layers" tab and click "recreation" - it will show the DNR managed lands (Public Land). You can zoom closer into your area and view Aerials of the areas and topos as well. If you need any help with the program let me know, I've become pretty good with it in the past year

Otherwise there's a lot of Public land in my area that doesn't get real heavy bowhunting pressure most seasons. I'm only a couple counties over (Columbia) and I could probably point you in the right direction to find some nice chunks of public land to hunt as well.
