Get yourself enrolled in a National Bowhunter Education class sponsored by the NBEF.
http://www.nbef.org/ That is the first place you should look regardless if your state requires it or not. You will learn.
After that, find yourself a local mentor you can shoot and learn with. He/she might not take you hunting but perhaps they may teach you what you need to know/do.
Read, here is a great place to read. Read more, pages and pages of fantastic information but with some misinformation, when the questions arise, ask.
Equipment right now is the lessor of the questions, there is so much great equipment available but first you need to know the ins and outs of said equipment, then learn to shoot said equipment. Good luck in your quest.
