Default Scents

Still new at this, only my 2nd yr. of bow hunting. See alot of scents and Lures out there and was wondering what was good and do they really work. Never used any but was willing to try if I could get some insight. Also how important is it to wash all gear in scent free soap and then bag it all until ready to use. Got lucky last year on opening day (8pt.) but thay did not see much after that.

IMO, staying as scent free as possible is more important than using cover/attractant scents. Using some of the commercial scent killer detergents or even just a baking soda/water wash on your hunting duds is a good idea. I do think that some cover secents/attractants have their place in the woods as well. Curiosity scents like vanilla can be handy during this real early season when something like a doe in heat scent wouldn't even be natural in the woods right now.

I agree with Austin on this one, focus on being as scent free as possible but you also want to set up your stands to hunt the wind (use the wind, the wind is your friend)... As for the scents, in the last 10+ years I havehad doe pee work, grunt calls work, bleat calls work and have hadrattling work!!!! With that being said none of them are fool proof, timing is the key to each one of those tactics as well as location....A lot of these tactics will have differenteffects in different areas with different deer densities and different buck to doe ratiostoo.....
