Default Calling all previous target panic sufferers...

Just had a quick question for all you guys that have suffered from this unbearable condition. Do you have to think about not doing what it was you were doing (wrong) every time you draw back your bow to shoot? Or has it become second nature to you now on how to properly execute the shot, without really thinking about it?

I am just asking because I am still battling TP and I have to really think about what I'm doing every time I start to aim.

I have been training myself to aim in steps, and to take each step in the same exact order every time, with the hope that someday soon I wont even have to think about the steps. In the beginning, it took forever to take a shot, but now, 20 seconds is more than enough. I dont really think about most of the steps at this point, but I still know the exact order of exactly what I do. I have eleven steps.

I never had it bad, just to the point I was punchingmy shotevery now and then, but mainly just as long as I concentrate on trusting the float onmy pin it is not a problem. I don't even know if you could truely call what I had target panic or not.

It's still a work in progress for me when I'm practicing. Sometimes it bothers me and sometimes it doesn't. Fortunately for me, I do NOT havetarget panicwhen I'm in the stand and drawing on a deer.

Some practice sessions are great and some are a battle. I just have to tell myself to get the bow up a liiiiiitle bit more. I'm working on the "float"...I'm getting there. There isn't one single "thing" that I've been able to pin point as the exact cause for it for me though.

To truly be shooting without targtet panic, you must allow your subconscious control the aim and the release. Also...there is no such thing as "previous" sufferers, because once you have it, you will always have it, though hopefully under control.

Being over it for the most part now I do not have to think about what I did wrong before. I think that is what is holding you back. You should not have the negative thoughts in your head of your old habits even if you think you are doing the opposite. You have to retrain yourself from the beginning to truly beat it.

Well, I'm hopefully getting to the point of normalcy. I had a really bad problem of pulling (or I should say punching) the trigger when I didn't even want to shoot. I would actually draw my bow back and tell myself repeatedly not to shoot, but I still would. Kind of scary when you think about it. I remedied that by basically making a draw length check release out of my current release. That way I couldn't pull the trigger no matter how hard I wanted to. It worked.

Now I'm getting to the point of where I don't mind the float but I catch myself not squeezing off the shot. Still trying to use back tension with a trigger release too. I'm getting there, hopefully.

I hope I'm on the right track now. Glad to hear you beat it. BTW, I have those PM's saved that you sent me back in April. Sometimes I refer back to those articles and reread them. Thanks.

What type of release are you using? I was suffering from the same problem and I went to a thumb trigger release and it has cured my problem. Also is you panic happening on any kind of target or just certain kind? I canhold dead still on a deer target but can shoot a dot worth a darn.
