That method has never worked out right for me. The best way to determine your draw length is to draw the bow you are planing to buy and see how it fits. I own several bows and they vary about an inch or so from bow to bow depending on the bow and the set up. Your release and whether you use a string loop also effects it to an extent.

Also keep in mind not all bows are that accurate on their draw length specs. Don't look at a chart like that and say "Ok I have a 29 inch draw length, I will order X bow with a 30 inch draw length module or cam if it is a Mathews.". Then you get the bow and find out that that formula didn't exactly fit you, you used a string loop with a longer head release and your bow actually measures an inch longer than what the specs say (not uncommon). Now you have a bow that may be close to 2 inches long in draw length for you. And you have to go through all the BS of trying to get it right. Or worse yet you just assume that it is right and shoot a bow that doesn't fit you well and wonder why you have problems.

A good shop should solve all those problems before you plunk down your hard earned cash and walk out with the bow.

Paul
