Default Safety Vest question

What do you use to tie your safety vest to the tree?

I have a hunters safety system vest, and the strap that came with it is to short to maneuver around with in the tree, more times than I like to think about the strap would have been in the way to make a shot on deer if I wanted to take a shot.

I have made up a new tie down that is 5/8" nylon with a loop on one end and a carabiner tied on the other end, all told it is about 10'-0" long, which on the largest trees we have stands in should give me about 4'-0" of slack, more on the smaller trees.

The idea is to take the looped end wrap it around the tree, then run the carabiner end through the loop and clip it onto my vest.

Still not sure if this is the way I want to go, but for right now it looks like a better alternative than what I had last year.

What do you use?

I use either the tether that came with my summit stand or the one that came with my LW stand. Both utilize the prussic knot.

There is another short rope { That is tied around the big loop rope} it slides on the big loop rope..It's there so you can adjust your harness so there is less of a fall if the stand should break..In other words ...if your stand should break you only get jolted maybe 3 foot instead of 6 foot..

If nobody post a pic..I'll post a pic tomorrow.

I'm using a regular 5 pt harness that came with a lock on for early season and then switch to the Gorillas vest once it's not so hot.

Your prussic's gonna need to have 6 loops.....not 4.

I'll get you a photo. Stand by.

In your 1st picture (the top one) what is going on at the end of the rope? (right side of the picture)

Is that just a knot to prevent the prussic knot from sliding off?

Finally, what type/size rope do you use? I currently have a soft nylon rope, picked for its suppleness, but I am a bit concerned with the 'stretch' that it has, is a stiffer rope preferred even though it doesn't move as well?
