So I get the call tonight. The landowner of the main property I hunt calls and says that Bert's Camera was stolen, better come up and check your stuff. I hop in the rig and fly over to the property to check out the scene. Once I get up on the ridge I take inventory, nothing gone including MECHDOC's cleverly disguised camera that doubles as a DNR photo device per the stickers on it.
I call Bert a.k.a the "Mojito Bandito". First and foremost I say I am sorry to hear it was stolen. Next I asked why he didn't tell me he had a camera up on the property. For some reason I don't feel all that bad for him. I have always told the guy that he could hunt my stands after catching him in them without permission and he still feeds me a line of crap and tells me he doesn't hunt them. I tell him we have cameras and even told him there are a few decent deer this year as usual, yet he puts up a camera in the stupidest spot of all, right on a walking trail the property owner uses. Had I known he was putting up a camera I would have had him put it in a spot with 10 times more deer travel and minimal chance of theft, I'd also have MECHDOC set him up with some theft deterrent stickers and locks. Instead the guy tries to undercut me to see what is up there, like I am lying or something.
Should I feel bad about this or just be happy my crap is all there still? I am going back out in the morning to lock all the stands that aren't secured. I am also contemplating a camera for the trail that won't be seen, mayne it's time I tracked the "Mojito Bandito"
