You just need to practice. There is a big difference between 20 yards and 40 yards. Do most, if not all of your practicing at 40 and your groups will begin to shrink within a week.

Agreed....If you sling sticks at 40yds you have to realize any movement is magnified in realation to a 20yd shot. Just slow down your shot sequence, take your time, pick your spot, aim and release. Like Mez said..do most of your shooting at 40 and you will narrow down those groupings in no time.

What size sight pins do you use? I couldn't hold a 40 yard group worth a damn when I had .029 pins, it covered half the target and I couldn't see the spot that I was aiming for. Changing to .019 pins made a big difference. Also take time between shots to give your muscles time to recover, I usually wait about 30 seconds. I stand there and visualize my target then take my time with the shot. It takes more concentration, at 20 yards you can fling arrows all day and hit a deer sized target.

No matter what you do there is no substitute for developing good, consistent shooting form and AIM THE BOW. At the shot just follow through, meaning AIM THE BOW. It can also be said, shoot the bow. Let the bow shoot the arrow.

Sounds like maybe the bow is out of tune. Just because you get good groups at 20 yards doesnt mean its tuned. I would walkback tune and go from there. Your broadheads will let you know the truth.

If you have the pins, shoot some 50 and 60 yard practice. After this, 40 will seem like a chip shot. At 20-30, the vital area will feel like the side of a barn.

Shooting the longer distances improves my confidence at realistic bowhunting ranges.
