RE: How do you get a guy to?
When I first got my Matthews, I was having the same probelm. My old bow didn't fit me very well, and I had nobody to teach me proper form. I was in that same habbit of gripping the bow. I was having a hard time getting over the mental barrier of not actually gripping my new bow, which I had just shelled out about $1300 for the whole setup, when I shot. My buddy had the same bow, and we shot together a little. Watching him do it made me feel a little better. The main thing was I just had to consiously think about not gripping the bow the whole time when I first started doing it.
One good thing to do might be to take him to an indoor range with the huge block targets so it is hard to miss. Have him stand close to the target and just shoot with his eyes closed. This way, he can not be aiming, so he can concentrate on form. All of his concentration should be on not gripping the bow. And make sure he has a sling.
