It has been said by numerous people, including DNR officials, that there are coyoteson the state land that I hunt. I've been hunting this land for about 6-7 years. I have yet to see or hear a single coyote. I have yet to get a trail cam pic of one, and I've had my cam/cams in these woods from the start. Do you think it's still possible to have them, despitenot ever seeing, hearing, or getting a pic of one?[&:]

earlyin--I started to see coyotes off and on about 6 years ago here in Northern Virginia, but never in the woods. The past three years I have seen coyotes. Their population is growing around here.
It is strange that you have never even heard one. Not seeing one, well I can believe that, but I would think that in 7 years of hunting you would have heard them a few times. You are in PA correct? I am sure they are there.

very possible....its very very rare for us to hear them in my area....
though they are around...they seem to be elusive and very smart and able to not be seen and seem to have a large home range and keep traveling pretty often...
buddies coonhound liked to chase them once in a while...i think there was like 8 the last time he did....lets saw they about litterally ripped his face off...he was in pretty bad shape...guess they just turned around and attacked...it was mid-late summer so maybe a mother and young? i dont know...
every now and again we will spot one...ive NEVER heard them in the area and do a ton of hunting in the area...only ever seen a hand full...usually while driving around or spotting at night...did have one get drove past me once...and the crew has spotted them now and again driving..maybe 1 a year if that...
we do alot of coon hunting at night and im in the stand late in the evenings and EARLY in the mornings and never heard a yote in the area though we all know they are there...

Sure there around! You will not see them if they see or smell you first! They don't stick around, they are long gone! A lot of times when you hear them is when they are hungry and about to make a kill or just did! This is when you will hear them yipping like crazy! In the winter months of Fan/Feb/March you will hear them howl, this is there breeding season! I would go get your self a few calls and try to call some in,. sure is good fun! I love it, it keeps them in check and helps out the local deer and turkeys!

If I went by how I saw and heard while deer hunting and scouting I would think that there weren't many around me either. I have seen4 from the stand, scouting, or walking in and out in 20+ seasons. A neighbor of mine and his friends drive them in the winter and kill 15-20 every year.
They are there. They are ghosts.
