I know none of you take a tape measure and find out how far up you are, but what would you say the highest youve hunted from is? Im not scared of heights to say the least, I'll go as high as needed, which brings reason for the thread.
I was scouting today and I picked my tree, but in order for me to be "over" the undergrowth.... I'll probably need to be APX 30ft. up. thats pretty high IMO. But it's the perfect tree...
would you go 30ft.+ up to have a good stand location?

No I don't think I would go that high, since the trees on the property I hunt, won't allow it!![>:] But If I were able to and that's what it would take. Yes.
The highest I have ever hunted out of a tree, is approx 6 ft. I'm planning on going to about 20 where trees permit.
Seriously though, I don't like to hunt much above 20', mostly because of the angles and the fact that most of the places I hunt, there is a point where getting too high increases the amount of "potential deflectors" I have in my way.
I believe 25' was the highest I ever set a stand and the pucker factor was up there.[:@]
Being high is good but you don't need to get too high for a good shot angle.
Good point Fox, so let me ask this...
If Im 30ft up, and my target is 20yrds(60ft.) out, what kind of angle am I looking at? Too steep?
You are looking at roughly a 25-30 deg angle and at 20 yards, you should be fine but get in closer, you run into serious issues trying to catch both lungs imo.

X2....I'd trim that under brush if possible, or just settleing for shots 20+ yards away. Tough call.
