Default What did I discover?!?...with picture

On a scouting trip yesterday I found a cluster of 15 rubs in a 15X15 yard area rolling around a point heading from thrick cover to a large stand of white and chestnut oaks. My question is should this area be treated as an early season funnel bed to feed. Or, should it be looked at as a good funnel for bucks cruising in the rut (the rubs seem to be using the edge of the point as a funnel. How and when would you hunt this?

You may have found a staging area.

Yea I definitely think this spot could produce once the acorns start dropping. I put a mineral lick on the southside of the large bedding area and had 6 8 pts visit in 3 days. The largest two have a shot at120 soI know theres shooters in the area. When is the peak week per se for white oak acorns to be dropping?

What you found here is a classic example of a staging area. That stand will produce the best in the evenings. The thing is, those rubs are telling you that the buck is holding up there until it is dark. Which means hunting close to the food source is going to do you no good. Get backas close to that bedding area as you can and be ready those last 45 min of light.

Could also be a travel route from the feeding souce (field) into the bedding area to search out does, and destroys the tree along the way....but more than likely a stageing area, either way, sounds like a classic hot spot. Good luck.
