Default Common denominator to new hunt spots this year......

Well I laid out most of my new hunting spots for this year on Google Earth. I found a trend in all the stand sites I deemed to be a go for this upcoming season. They are all right around a 1 mile trip into the bigwoods. All the funnels, all the big rubs/scrapes from last winter, and most of the remote bedding areas with what appears to be little to no human pressure are way out in the boonies! No matter how I tried to access these spots, they came up right around a 1 mile one way trip in to the spots. Man, I better get in better shape! Thank god for my new GPS. Other than sheer distance to my spots, I also found that I hunt around water a ton. Any of you have any trends to your hunting spots? Distance/food/terrain...etc?

Just like you, almost all of my spots are between 3/4 mile and one up to2 miles in and in or close to water.

Oak trees. Almost everything I set up this year is centered around oaks. I added one set-up amidst a very prodcutive persimmon grove.

i am really trying to hunt right outside of bedding areas, like last year i hunted on food plots and staging areas 100 yards away from the food but i never saw a mature buck so this year im hunting right on top of that buck, where he has to walk 20 yards out of his bedding and i will have a shot...................the one thing that is hard tho is that i have to have a perfect wind and i have to be extra scent cautious

kwilson--I have only found a couple persimmon trees in all of my scouting on the military base I hunt. I killed a 7 point 40 yards of those trees the first week of season. I didn't hunt around those trees last year. I believe I will get back in there and see if those persimmons are back producing. Thanks for the reminder.

Steven....what times of the year are you planning on hunting those bedding areas?
