My pain in the kiester sister in law called last night and asked if I would still like to get on her boss's lease. I asked about this possibility back in January when I lost my lease. Back then it was not a possibility. I am 99% sure I'm going to do it. Someone on the place backed out and gave me the opening. It is 8 people on 2000 acres at $560 each. 1 buck, 2 does, unlimited feral hogs, and one Eastern turkey during spring season, plus varmints. It is a year round lease and has a cabin to be shared by all. This place is in Jefferson county Texas, about 2 hours NE of home. I can also have guests. If a guest shoots a deer it comes out of my bag limit fot the year. I'm cool with that especially because the hogs are year round and unlimited.
I have yet to see the place but I know that out of 8 hunters last year 7 tagged out and the 8th only hunted 4 days. I don't know how many bow hunters are on the place.
Also Jefferson county has antler restrictions in place and from what I understand they have been successful.
Here I am all set to go hang stands on the free land I can hunt in west Texas. I've been there and have some idea of how I want to hunt the place. This new place I'll be going into blind with only 1 1/2 months to the season. I may get on and concentrate on west Tx this year with a few trips to east Tx to learn the place and then be in good shape next year.
Another benefit to east Tx is its 1/2 the drive and my wife could visit her sister on weekends I hunt. seems like a no brainer I guess. Maybe SIL isn't such a pain in the kiester after all. Wait.....yes she is.
What part of west Tx is you lease? If you get close to me give me a shout.I found a bumper crop of hogs yesterday I'm going to check into about thinning out!

Nice country to hunt,I turn and head north at Abilene towards Albany and points north.I'm going to try to get my son and myself in Hunter saftey that weekend.I don't have to have it but be good to take it anyway.
