Default 2008 Euro Mounts

I have recently got into making Euro mounts the super easy way and have found they turn out better than most. I did my dads freak 8 point and a cowhorn (spike) I found dead in velvet after a year or so. They both turned out real well and will not hesitate to do this to a deer I dont wont to mount. I simply grabbed a can of KILLZ surface paint and taped the horns off. Then I proceeded to spray the whole skull in it. I then took a clear coat wood varnish and sprayed down the skull while it was still wet. The clear coat puts a shine on it and really makes it look like bone while protecting to boot. The both of them took me all of 10 minutes apeice then a days worth of drying.

What do you do to clean the tissues off? Do you just do it by hand?

I cut as much of the hair and hyde off as possible. Then I soaked it in water for about a week to soften up, then boiled it and picked it off with a knife. It takes some time and patience, and it stinks real bad. The worst part is removing the brain and eyballs. That was the most disgusting thing I've ever done.

Also, don't use your wife's good pan to boil skulls. My marriage barely survived that one....

I found one completly stripped of everything and that one was easy. The other one, I found two months after it was shot. It still had brain, eyes, and hide attached. I left it on top of a fence for 4 months, and it finally came off after so long and a few well placed chops with my dads mower [&o]. Then just clen it a lil and spray away.

Looks good. The hardest part is not breaking part of the nose after boiling, they are so brittle. We have started attaching the bottom jaw to our euro mounts, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't but it shows the age of the deer.
