Most, if not all, states offer some sort of "feed the hungry" program, in which hunters can donate their deer. I don't know how it works in other states, but the big problem with that in Missouri is, save about 35 bones that the MDC covers, the hunter has to pay the processing fee.
Now, I don't think the processors should donate their time, they deserve to be paid for what they do. But here's the question.
Would you be in favor of the price of your deer tag going up, let's say, $2, as long as that extra dollar is guaranteed to be used to cover processing fees? I know I sure as heck would. Missouri, like most states, needs a ton of does killed each year. I kill 1 or 2, but I pass on far more because;
1. I won't eat that many
2. I cannot afford processing on that many deer each year.
So I would, without question, be in favor of such a thing. How bout ya'll?

Jeff, I completely understand the field dressing issue. But, why would the hunter quartering them be a stipulation with you? Isn't that what the processor is being paid for?

Yep. I have crop damage permits that I don't use enough because I can't keep all of the meat and there is not a donation site close enough to me. Of course "friends" will always take it, but they want it wrapped and ready to go and I'm not doing that but for about 1 other person.
It really amazes me the number of people who want deer, but are not willing to pay for the processing or do it themselves.

My processor DOES donate his services for the meat I donate. God Bless him.
"I" just can't get the picture out of my head of guys stacking them up ......and dropping them off. TOO MUCH like just "killin'" and not enough like "huntin'", to ME.

We quarter our deer first I guess its personal preferance.
And yes I am in favor.
