Default How to scout

I need some help on scouting, there is no food plots on my land, and the bedding area i knew of was brush hogged last year. Do i just sit in my tree stand? Very newbie but i need to know.

No, you don't just climb a random tree and sit there. You need to foot it around ASAP. Season is approaching and you don't want to be out there pressuring the deer so close to season. Heres my advice, find a trail and follow it being sure not to walk directly on it but at least 10-15 feet to the side of it. See if it leads to water, food or a bedding area. Find out where these deer are traveling and maybe put up a camera or two to see what times of the day they are using the trails. You definitely want to be set up on a trail, intersection or some kind of funnel. Be sure to be as scent free as possible when scouting at this time of year. Once you pick a good tree to use go ahead and get your stand hung and you shooting lanes trimmed now!

Tracks buddy tracks. Learn to read them is your best source for finding deer. When I say learn to read them, I mean be able to tell the difference from deer that just walked by to the ones that came in the morning, last night last week.... I won't hunt land that doesn't have tracks everyday. Why should I waste my time sitting watching squirrels? If you need a lesson, go to your local park everyday for a week. Walk the same area you see deer and you will get the hang of it. Trust me (even though you've never reada single post on deer hunting from me) you will be able to virgin hunt anywhere and score a deer. Of course that is providing there are deer in the woods your hunting.

Thats got my thinking that there may be no deer in the 35 acres that i hunt, its all brush except for trees by the creek and the gasline.

That creek that you speak of could very well be your best bet in finding sign. Look to see if they are crossing/following it, or drinking from it,since you say it has the only trees as coverin the area. As stated, a trail cam would be a great idea if you can leave one without it being stolen.[:@]

Go to google maps and copy us a satelite image of the property. If you can draw the border lines of the property with another program. From a photo like that we can tell you where to look. If you aren't sure how to copy and upload he photo here just copy and paste a link.

Here it is, The blue is water, the water on the south side really nothing that is dry except when it rains and the Creek is at the north. The yellow dots is where i seen some deer beds. Red dots are all the places that have trees for a treestand, dont mean there are deer there tho.

All the trails you see are from Four Wheelers and Golf Carts.

That north east corner looks like it might be your best bet. It seems there's more woodsin the northern tier.Looking at the pic, I don't know if you really want to hang a trail cam in there though. You'll have to use your discretion on that one. It looks like that area gets it's share of traffic. JMO
