Default Sick Buck Killed Today---My Story (PICS)

Today turned out to be a very interesting evening.

Monday night my father in law had been telling me about this buck he kept seeing in the back yard in the apple orchard"¦.WELL"¦today the retired neighbor lady was taking a walk and managed to walk 15 feet from the buck..at that time she knew something was wrong"¦.Apparently the buck was sick"¦he was hunched over and very unstable.....

The following activities took place today:

1) She called the DNR and they said they did not handle things like this
2) She called the police and they told her to call 911"¦imagine that
3) She called 911 and a nice sheriff showed up"¦..with his 9MM and put the deer out of his misery.

The deer was left there. That"™s when I was contacted"¦.When I got there the neighbors had covered the buck in Lime to preserve it"¦..which is what you will see all over him"¦..weird"¦.

Anyway"¦I did not explore the animal too much to understand its sickness"¦it could be anything"¦"¦

Here he is"¦.a good Michigan Buck"¦.it"™s too bad this happened"¦.

(When I look back on this....Could it just have been heat exhaustion? I wonder.....)

Brian

That is odd, with all the scares of CWD, Blue Tounge disease the DCNR (I assume that's your game wardens, here it's the PGC) wasn't interested in what they may or may not have in a ill deer?

So sad. That's very odd that the DNR wouldn't handle a case like that.

I know Rob....I could not believe it myself....The DNR actually lives down 4 houses down from me...I went to see him but he was not home....I wonder....its too bad....Time, Resources, and money....I hope thats not the reason the DNR was not interested...

That is odd that they did not want to investigate. That is a shame that he had to go like that, what kind of temps are you guys getting up there? I was looking online the other day for the weather where I hunt and it was up there like 109 or so and it gets like that every summer and I haven't noticed or heard of any issues with the heat. I would think they would be pretty tolerant to the heat, maybe not though, I know it gets colder up there too.

That's the strange part. That buck "looks" ok in the face but there's no telling what was actually going on.

Thats to bad, it would have been nice if the DNR would take it in and find out what was wrong with it. If it was truely sick there may be many others out there with the same problem.

It could be so simple that he got hit by a car and only had internal injuries but one never knows. Odd to say the least.
