Default Tree Step question

This season im going to try to be more mobile. Last year i hunted primarily out of my climber, which was nice cause it allowed me to get into areas that were seeing lots of action quickly. The only problem was the majority of the areas that i hunted, the trees that were in the perfect location were not suitable for the climber, not straight and had a bunch of branches. My question is has anyone used Lone Wolf climbing sticks along with a lock on treestand? I have plenty of Lock ons, so i would only have to invest in the climbing sticks. Are they easy to use, safe and quiet? I also noticed that they are 32" in length, which means that i would have to be carrying in 8 sticks to get to the height that i like to be at. Thats an extra 20 pounds to carry in. Although this doesnt bother me, my main concern is how quick and quiet i can get from the ground to be hunting in the stand. Any advice on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Rob

I have two friends who swear by the LW climbing sticks and a Loc-On stand!! One guy says he has timed himself with a LW Lock-On and these LW climbing sticks and he can be sitting in his stand about 18 feet high, in less than 4 1/2minutes! I think he uses about 5 of the LW climbing sticks and can fasten them so quickly to the tree that he's strapping his stand to the tree in no time!

He has practiced a lot and has learned different ways to cut 5 seconds here and 10 seconds there and has it down to a fine art. Somehow he has everything fastened to him, and as he ascends the first stick, he fastens the second, and so on until he is standing on the top stick with his linemans belt around the tree. fastening his Lock-On to the tree.

He said it took him about 30 or 40 attempts to finally get to where he can get 4 1/2 minutes each time now. He can also do it fairly effortlessly and quietly. He pads everything so there is no metal on metal!

I just played with some LW sticks this past weekend. First of all, you do not have to connect or stack them one after the other. You can space them apart, so 3-4 sticks can get you up to 15+ feet with no problem. They are quiet and very easy to set up. And they have a very rock solid feel to them. For me, they did not budge or slip or wiggle...not at all.

The only thing i wasn't wild about was that on bigger trees, there is not much space between thetree and the foot step, so you only get about 3 inches or so of your toe on the step. I thinkthis is a problem with all climbing sticks...you hang off the"front" of the tree rather than wrap around the sides of thetree as youwould with screw in steps. I like to have the step under the ball or arch of my foot for a more secure climb, but that didn't seem possible with the LW sticks on a big tree...unless you modify them somehow.

Most people only need 3 or 4 to get to their desired height. I can get to 17 feet with 3 of them. I'm 6 feet tall.

If you need 8 then you are probably hunting about 45 feet high [:-].

As far as climbing sticks go, Lone Wolf is the best I've used. You won't find a better climbing stick for being mobile.

We use 4 at a time and go well over 20 feet up. Great product.

4 stix can get me 18-20 ft, depending on how much I pay attention to my spacing. I can set them up & a hang on in under 20 minutes. 4.5 minutes is insane. That must be one sweet system. I could do it in probably 12 if I really tried, but I go slow to keep from sweating.

They are new to me as of a few weeks ago. With three of them I can easily get 16 feet high comfortably. If you are in a hemlock or a tree with a branch or two in the right place you can get much higher.I will buy a 4th tree stick just to have it.They are excellent on all levels, ease of use, quiet and solid.

I own the Alpha Assault, with the climbing sticks. Its a great stand and sticks combo. If you want light and fast get it, if your looking for an easy boy recliner pass on it. I am fortunate I'm one of those guys who can sit ALL day withnot much space, and aquarter inch of padding between the metal and my back side. I'm planning on getting another one this year, I'm tired of lugging a climber around, and truly appreciate getting in and out of a stand with little if any noise. .... Good Hunting.

I hunt out of tree saddle and use the Lone Wolf sticks to get up the tree. 3 sticks I get to 15-18 feet. Excellent product- rock solid. Never timed myself but guess about 10-15 minutes to get set up. Getting around limbs no problem. Haven't used them on monster trees. I use trees as small as 5-6" diameter up to about 18".
