Default MA Bucks/Food Plot Update !!

OK- took my younger son out with me today to switch out cards in the trail cam, check on the plot & replenish the feeder. It was his first time in the real deer woods with me- he's 5.5 years old. We took the Bad Boy Buggie & he loved the ride, he understood that we were in "stealth" mode and was really good the whole time.

The only curve ball was when I went to replenishmy feeder...... it was full! Seems as though the deer pellets I put in last week don't like to go through the funnel & don't like being aggitated! I tested the feeder- it works, but the darn pellets don't come out. So out went the pellets & in went some whole corn. I tested the feeder again with the corn & it worked as expected.

So with a feeder that wasn't throwing food for an entire week & a foodplot that was just emerging (1/4 Clover & Alfalfa, 3/4 Secret Spot, Extreme & No Plow) I wasn't expecting to have many pictures on the card when I returned home. Much to my surprise, I had a bunch of pictures- practically all bucks! This is a mature 9 point that I've set my sights on. Looks like a double throat patch he's developing..... [/b]

Here's my plot. You can see the camera in the back left- just behind the 1/4 of the plot with the emergent Clover/Alfalfa. The good news is that the Extreme, No Plow & Secret Spot combo mix in the other 3/4's of the plot has finally germinated and is beginning to sprout! I was beginning to worry about this section of the plot, but it seems like it'll be okay now. How do you all like my custom Camo job on the feeder? I call it "Hoppy's Interior Woodland Neutral".

And here's my son Michael. This little guy is already shooting a mini-longbow pretty darn well. He also has a natural horseshoe up his keister.
He kept telling me the whole way to my friend's house, "We're going to see a deer today Daddy, I just know we will!". Well, on the way out- we had just emerged from the woods and were back on the trail on the powerlines & we hadn't gone 20 yards (maybe 90 yards from my plot) and all of a sudden, we bump a BIG mainframe 8 who was bedded under a small conifer! He jumped up & bounded away- wasn't spooked as much as he felt we were just too close for comfort, didn't blow or anything. He was 10 yards away from my son when he first got up- my son was talking about it the whole way home. [/b]

Another update next week.............

That buck's looking good. Great job getting your son out there with you.It looks like he had a good time. I take my 3.5 year old out from time to time and he loves it.

Good luck getting on that buck.

I usually take his older brother (9.5 years old), but he got a bad sunburn at the beach on Saturday so he took it easy yesterday.

I'm pretty sure the buck is a 9- unless there's another point on the right side that's being hidden by what I "think" is the G4. Even as a 9 pointer, I'd still take him- look at his body, that's no young buck.

Looks like you a good ole time! Nick buck. Good experiences for your boy! My fiance and I are having a baby boy in Nov.

I too will be checking my 2 food plots I planted 2 weeks ago and my trail cams this coming weekend. Can't wait!

My son woke up this morning and said to me, "Dad, could you believe that deer we saw yesterday?" I replied, "Yeah, he was a big one- huh?". Then Michael pauses and says, "Can I go back out there again with you?"

The hook has been firmly set.............
