Default How to bowhunt land with little to no trees.

I hunt on a 35 acre piece of land that is like a rectangle with a large field on 1 side and houses on the other, not really good hunting but there is signs of deer here. Most of the land is brush and there is only 2 spots that have decent tree selection for bowhunting. I find myself cutting trails for the deer to come to the tree, is this a bad thing? There is a gasline that turns into the side of the large field and the good tree spots are on each end of gasline in between two active roads. There is mowed trails throughout the whole property for the ATV's. Should I buy a bind and hunt in the brush or keep making trails to the stand?

Thanks and Im sort of new to bowhunting, 1 unsucessful season under my belt.

Yes, I'd buy a ground blind and brush it in real good, the sooner the better so they get use to it.

Nothing wrong with cutting trails if they start to use them ok.. But I think I'd be setting up a nice ground blind personally..

My suggestion would be to put a camera on the trails to see whats coming in...and if you cant hunt the tree....there is nothing wrong hunting from a blind, i just recently purchased a double bull blind, a bit spendy but well worth it. I killed my first deer ever out of a blind, and it was with a bow too!

Just keep least amount of windows open to keep the animals from seeing movement, and some cover scent and your ready to go. And if you can keep only one window open, theres not really a need for camo because it keeps it nice and dark, just wear dark clothes and your good. But camo does look better in trophy pictures

I would make a ghille suit from the native brush. I think that a blind may stick out to much in an area like that. I would construct a suit and try to find a place on the ground with some brush behind me to break up my outline.

Easy Sniper......If there is brush around, you can use it to brush the blind in,last year I put a blind up in a picked corn field, within a week I had deer with 20 yards of it feeding, and shot a doe out of it in late Dec.

Problem with that is that you are confined to your spot unless you want to move it and go through that trouble of brushing it in again and oh, waiting another week. Besides it would be so more more bad ass to snipe a deer with an arrow like that.

Is it possible to accurately shoot a bow while wearing a ghillie suit?
