I read a report (can't remember where) of a 14 year old doe being taken in the wild. I'd guess that they can get somewhat older in captivity.

I goggled "oldest whitetail deer" came back with some does get as old as 24 years in captivity. I assume that bucks would be some what younger.

Did not read that for into it.I think they were well taking care of, do not think they would live much past 10 years in the wild.

Well Me and couple of my buddies hunt a 600 acre farm in downstate Delaware and we had a Buck that was one of the biggest studs we had ever seen....he was one of those bucks everytime you saw him you didnt have your gun or your bow and he was basically laughing at you when you were driving down the lane to go home. You know thos bruiser you pass when you are leaving.....well year after year we would see him before bow season....our season here in DE starts Sept. 1st after that that buck went into hybronation...about 1-2 years ago we had stopped seeing him and figured that he had moved on or finally died....found no shed no sign of death.....Anyway this past season on the final couple days of the season i had the oppertunity to shoot a REALLY old deer that had brocken up points and basically didnt look like he would make it through the winter....Well we think that it was this buck HAD NO TEETH IN HIS HEAD and was stiff as a board when we found him ad im not talkin "Rigi" unless it sets in in 20 min He WAS OLD....id say 9 or 10....

If i can find the pics i will post them but i think that is the only deer that i have seen that was that old EVER on our property.

I know of one doe that is 18+ years old in Northern Minnesota. My dad lives up there and in the winter months they feed the deer shelled corn here and there through out the winter in his yard (10 yards from the house) and the same doe (bear but) has been coming in for 18 years. Who knows how old she was when she 1st started coming in. The doe does not have a tail so thats how they know its her. She also has a handful or so of scars from the rifle hunters on her. She hasn't had fawns for about 4 years now. Her back is somewhat saggy but you would think she would look in allot worse shape for her age. She actually looks pretty darn good. She is by far the boss hog around there. Whenever any other deer are in the yard she is the boss and they all know it. Dad always gets nervous after gun season wondering if she made it through. He hunts the same woods/area and has never seen her on stand that he knows of. He wouldn't shoot her anyway but he's surprised he's never seen her while bow hunting.
