Late last night I received a call from Glenn McDole, a man who I have looked up to for many years. Glenn was in the USMC and stationed in the Philippines on December 8th, 1941 when the ***anese attacked. He spent 3 1/2 years in a POW Camp and was at Palawan when his captors decided to execute everyone to keep them from being repatriated. He and 10 others escaped and made it back to American lines. After WWII ended, he was called back for the Korean War. After that, he spent 30 years with the state patrol. He is an amazing man who, through his own trails and tribulations, caused me to take inventory of my own worries and see how petty my problems really were. He has always been positive about life and sends everyone off with a "Semper Fi". He lived a few blocks from me for many years before I bought this place.
Anyway, he called me late last night when he found out that noone had notified me a month ago when his wife of 60+ years, Betty, had passed away after being ill for quite some time. Betty was his pride and joy and always met everyone with a smile on her face. She travelled everywhere with him when he spoke about WWII and was by his side the whole way. She always called me "honey" or "kiddo" when I went to visit and always gave me a hug and a kiss when I departed accompanied by "Don't be gone too long sweetie".
Please take a moment and put Glenn & Betty in your prayers. Glenn said last night that now all he had to do is sit around and wait for the Good Lord to decide it was his time to return to Betty.
Thank you.
Mark
