Default What kind of salt

What kind of salt can I use for a lick? I know their has been posts on this bu can't find one right away. Can I use salt that we use in our water softener. I don't have the money to buy all the fancy blocks that are out there.

You can get unmedicated salt from your local farm supply store, either in block or grainual form.
