Default Put up 3 stands this afternoon...and you wouldnt guess

I was about 30 feet high strapping my one of my hangers on, after screwing in about 35or moreameristep pegsand cut about a dozen branches that were in my lane... I turned off chainsaw and lowered it to ground with my rope.

I proudly sat on the newly hung stand and was glassing around to see how my set up was going to turn out. There are about 5 huge mature white oaks within 20 yards and a trail was directly underneath the tree I was in. It leads straight to a soybean field!

All of a sudden I heard what sounded like a rhino coming through the woods, so I started to turn and look, and a monster 5x5 in full velvet had just jumped an old barbed wire fence about 30 yrds from where I was. I had the pleasure of watching him for about 45 minutes until another smaller buck came through and they slowly, cautiously walked the trail that was the reason I put the stand there (besides the oaks).

I will be setting up a camera on this trail by the stand in hopes he makes it a routine. He will be on my wall if he is there on opening day!

I know man law says pics, but I had nothing but binoc's. If (when) I get the pics I will proudly post them for all to see. I bet he scores higher than 170-180".

Careful not to let him know your there already. Hopefully he doesn't move out after his summer pattern is done. Good luck.

I dont know about that. I have a better one that I put up last week that I believe will be more productive. Its on the edge of s large bedding area, with scrapes (well used) all around. I also put up one of my ladder stands about 10 yrds back in a tree line on an alfalfa plot. Its in a funnel from a field to a soybean farm. My next stnd is going up in my spot from last year (2 bucks) along a creek and well used trails. I will have one more stand to decide to hang, possibly with you and Landons help.

My climber is going to be my ace in the hole. It will be my mobile stand that I will use when I track on areas that I dont have stands, but my stands will cover most high traffic areas. In case you havent seen he place Im taking you and Landon to scout here it is:

The red squares are areas where my stands were last year. This year they are generally in the same areas, but closer to where I had to give up shots last year. Notice all of the surrounding areas...these were granted to me this year, and will need all the help I can get to scout...so get your boots and bring your bug spray and machette!

Man, chain saws, 30 feet up, shooting lanes... it just doesn't sound like a bow stand to me.[&:]

Don't get overly excited there is a really good chance that the buck will move to a new area come fall. I hate to be Bob Bummer but it is likely. Maybe putting up some feeders on your property would entice him to stick around. Also like Rob/PA Bowyer said be very careful not to alert him to your presence. Good luck, hope he sticks around.

Yep, 3 poplars growing from same trunk. Branches from the two others were in the spot where I wanted to put my stand. With the other branches swarming my stand, I had to get rid of then to see the trails and oaks to get a shot off...understand rubber band?

Highlands Ln. huh?Ill meet you there on the first day of the season.... Just messing with ya. Sounds like a good spot. Ive also gotta do some scouting on a new piece of property this weekend. Hopefully my new spot is also holding a 170 inch 5x5.
How many acres is that?

Its actually considered Montpelier. Its off of Hopeful Church Road between Taylors Creek and 33. Doswell hunt club leases the 900 acres surrounding my 160, but they said I could bowhunt it, and muzzleload the 600 acres across the creek. I'll be glad to swap a hunt with you. I have already met 3 people her that want to come scout with me,, Coreyj has already been here and wants to swap some hunts on his parents farm a couple counties away...towards Louisa. This spot was denied hunting for 9 years until last year, which all of the hunt dogs ran them across the creek, and their is ample bedding and two neew food plots (clover/chickory) and Alfa Rack. Its a honeyhole!!!!!

I have two other pieces I lease, one is off Factory Mill Rd (180 acres with 2 islans on north anna river),)and one is off Gren Bay Rd (200 acres) on river (north anna) before you cross the bridge to spotsylvania. I have only been to that location once, and nevere even scouted it.

Here is Factory Mill:
A

And her is Green Bay Rd. I have no idea what this place is like
