Default Poor mans scent cover

I use stuff from the woods all the time in trying to control my scent. Here are 3 things I use that seem to help alot when I don't have any cover scent spray or when I choose not to use any. Any of you guys use anything natural to cover up your scent besides scent sprays?

1) Put your hunting clothes into a container with dry pine needles or dry leaves, or a combo of both.

2) Right when you get to your hunting spot look for moss on the backside of laydown logs. Rip off the moss and spread it onto the brim of your hat, and all of the potential openings on your hunting clothes (pant openings, neck opening, around wrists, crotch, underarms).

3). Step onto a rotting log with your boots and just spread it all over your boots prior to entering the woods.

I've done similar things.

I walk through every creek I cross to get any scent off my boots.....and I'm not above stepping in a fresh cow pile as I traverse the pasture, either......as I hunt its edges.

I've used similar tactics and have used mud, cow-poop, pine needles, and thanks just reminded me I need to order some more deer dander

I take it a step further and ingest a little poo so as to purge my human stench with a little natural aroma (jk) Seriously though, I think it is a great idea to use as much natural scent indigenous to the area as possible. Acorn scent although good in some spots is not so good here in Colorado.

Does walking through creeks or water actually wash scent off your boots? I believe that tracking dogs actually track better after a rain (scent was dispered before rain). Yes it is different scenerios, but the addition of water could actually do the opposite of what you think you are doing.

Just a thought.

Yep. I try to always incorporate cedar in and around my set up. It works great to provide cover for me as well as cover scent..................
