Default Weekend Update....

I finally retired from the military and had my retirement party this past weekend. A lot of family and friends came in to help me celebrate and none of them had been here before so they wanted a tour. I let them ride around the property with the understanding that the west side of the big pond, which my son named "Lake Donchawishucouldfishhere", was off limits because we have set that 10 acres aside as a wildlife sanctuary. All went well except for one kid who decided he couldn't resist the west side. The rest of were sitting here by the house when about 40 slickheads came flying across the dam towards us. As the does were coming toward us, I saw down to the south several bucks heading around the back of the pond. Then, out from the woods came the kid on the 4 wheeler chasing the slickheads! I wanted to throttle him to within an inch of his life! Fortunately, his father took care of the punishment. He yanked him off the ATV and castigated him in front of everyone else. He took the 4 wheeler and told me to keep it. Then he grounded the kid for the rest of the summer for not respecting someone else's property. He then rounded up the rest of his family and left for home. I called him later to find out if he wanted me to take his 4 wheeler back to his place as I was not going to accept something like that. He asked me to hold on to it until the end of the summer. After everyone left, I sat there watching the west side to see of any deer would return and was sorely disappointed when I didn't see any deer go back. I got up at daybreak Sunday morning to see if there was any hope and saw several slickheads making their way into the sanctuary. I walked down to the south end of the property and found fresh tracks heading back to sanctuary from the back end of the pond too. I was scared that the boy might have ruined something I have been working on, but it looks like the deer forgave the one time incident. Going out this morning to set up trail cam's. From what I have seen so far, it's going to be a good bow season this year.

Speaking of bow season, did anyone who was going to hunt here with me get an out of state tag?

I forgot to mention, whileturkey hunting on 4/14/08 had a doe with a small albino yearling with her. When I asked the land owner a few days later if he had seen it, he claims there are several albinos running around that property.

AF--THANK YOU for your military service. I really hope you enjoy yourself this fall and nail a big one! I remember when my dad retired from the military after 25 years, him and I spent alot of time fishing that summer.

Congrats on your retirement, and thanks for your service.

Hope you have a good season, one incident shouldn't mess anything up.

Congrats on being able to devote more of your time to the outdoors! As for the incident, that is too bad but dont worry about possible damage it may have caused. One such incident in farm country will have zero impact long term - if it happened every week that would be a problem.
